They all provide different levels of service with various tariffs so you will need to do a little research into the one that suits your needs better. Where the mobile phones collect and redirect signals via aerials that are located around the country the satellite phones signals take a much longer route. The signals from a satellite phone are sent to the satellite where it is then redirected to the communication station on the ground. From there it is simply relayed onto the mobile phone network or landlines depending on who you was calling. Satellite phones work on the same radio wave communication method as the common mobile phone. While mobile phones connect to an aerial mast conveniently placed by the telephone networks all over the country the satellite phones do exact the same except they work a little harder and have to go a little farther to make the connection.
